Óbidos – Alcobaça – Batalha – Tomar

These four towns are known for their medieval history and marvellous architecture. We will get acquainted with their myths and legends.

Óbidos

What present will be worthy as a gift for a newlywed queen? For example, a beautiful small town with white buildings, surrounded by blossoming trees and medieval walls. Obidos hasn’t changed a lot, even nowadays it looks like few centuries ago, except for cafes and shops that are waiting for you there and where you can try famous Óbidos Ginjinha (Portuguese cherry liquor).

Alcobaça

Have you heard about Romeo and Juliet? Probably, yes. But have you heard a story about Prince Pedro and Ines de Castro? This is the one of the most tragic love stories.

In the gothic Monastery of Alcobaça these two lovers were buried near each other, so they won’t be separated ever again.

Batalha

When in Italy they have Leaning Tower of Pisa, in Portugal we have Unfinished Chapels of Batalha Monastery. The Monastery of Batalha presents Flamboyant gothic, if we will compare it with classical gothic architecture of Alcobaça Monastery.

Tomar

Have you ever been in the Templar castle? The Convent of Christ in Tomar was one of them. Here we will find out how the knights of the most powerful medieval order, were living their everyday life and what secrets they were keeping.
